First X-Men Origins: Wolverine Screenshot Released

Dec 04, 2008 5:26pm CST tags: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Screenshots
The first screenshot of Raven's X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been released via 1UP.

The title is based on the upcoming movie of the same name starring Hugh Jackman. The film will detail Wolverine's past, and is set to cover the Weapon X storyline and reintroduce the character of Sabretooth (Liev Schreiber).

As for the game's prospects, former Fox executive Jeff Katz was optimistic about the project in speaking with MTV recently.

"A couple of the Fox execs, myself and a couple of the principals involved [in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'], we're all gamers," said Katz. "So when it came to the 'Wolverine' movie game, it was like, 'Let's do the coolest possible version of an X-Men game.'"

"Even the game itself, from everything I've seen and been told about it, is going to be slightly harder-edged than the X-Men games that have come before--which fits the tone of the movie," he added.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is set for release alongside the film in May 2009. While only the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms have been confirmed, additional versions may be in the works.

Up to four players can race through the game's 24 environments, which range from deserts and junkyards to the Daytona International Speedway, and require players to jump over rivers and dodge falling boulders.

Over 20 drivers will be available--14 of them actual NASCAR drivers--each with their own attributes that determine how well they perform on certain terrain. In addition to a driver, players also choose a teammate, with EA claiming "strategy is key" in their selection.

Three new screenshots of Dragon Age: Origins have been provided by developer BioWare, showcasing some of the game's enemies. At least, I hope they're enemies. No offense Giant Spiders, but I'd much rather kill you than be friends. It'd be ...awkward.

Developer Criterion has pulled back the curtain on Big Surf Island, the first bit of downloadable content that will add new land to its open-world racer Burnout Paradise.

Originally slated to be a free piece of downloadable content, the island will now sell for an undisclosed fee. "We never expected to create anything this ambitious, but as it progressed we got more and more excited about what it could become," said the studio.

Big Surf is the "culmination of everything we learned creating Paradise City," the developer added on its site. "We appreciate the support we know you guys will give us for our paid content. We think it's worth it."

Street Fighter SackBoys Invading LittleBigPlanet?

The "little" PlayStation 3 surprise Capcom recently teased looks to be downloadable Street Fighter-themed outfits for Media Molecule's PS3 platformer LittleBigPlanet.

The above images recently surfaced on Spanish PlayStation fansite PSN!, but were quickly removed at the request of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. Fortunately, Ripten and 1UP were able to archive the pictures before their removal.

If legitimate, and it certainly appears so given the SCEE-mandated removal, Street Fighter's LittleBigPlanet appearance mark the latest set of game-referencing outfits. Other promised costumes include Final Fantasy 7's Sephiroth and Metal Gear Solid 4's Old Snake, with a Resistance 2 Chimera costume recently added... Read more

New Stormrise Video, Screenshots: Total War Guys Head into the Future

I'm going to guess most people aren't familiar with Stormrise yet, so just in case: Stormrise a futuristic console RTS coming from Creative Assembly, the developers of the Total War series. Which is a really great series.

That doesn't mean Stormrise (PC, PS3, X360) will necessarily be any good, but it's certainly worth watching more than your average generic game. Here's a look at how things are progressing so far:

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Screenshots

Nov 26, 2008 12:00pm CST tags: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper, Screenshots
Apparently unaffected by his recent encounter with H.P. Lovecraft's mythical beast Cthulhu, Sherlock Holmes is gearing up for his fifth Frogwares Studio-developed PC adventure: Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper. Check out the screenshots below.

That's not a joke, by the way. Holmes really went face-to-face with Cthulu in Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened. And now he's facing off against the Jack the Ripper. Hardcore.

Sporting the ability to investigate areas in either first or third-person, the PC adventure game will hit Europe in March 2009. No North American release dates are available.
